Sydney Quilt Show Winners for 2013

The Sydney Quilt Show 2013 was a delight to wander through the beautiful quilts on display at the Craft & Quilt Fair held at Darling Harbour, Sydney, last week.  I wish I had have had more time to take more photos for you but it was a VERY busy show for us.  Congratulations to all who were successful and indeed, to all who had their quilt on display.
BEST OF SHOW was awarded to JANET TREEN for her RINGS AND ROSES and was entered in the Traditional (Amateur) Hand Quilted Section.

Janet said: "Double Wedding Ring with appliquéd rose borders, hand quilted and trapuntoed.
The rose border was inspired by a quilt made by Kathy Nakajima which featured on the cover of Quilters' Newsletter magazine Issue 394.

Rings and Roses also won the Hanger's Prize, one of the judge's choice, one of the viewer's choice, PLUS the coveted Narelle Grieve Award for Excellence in Amateur Hand Quilting.
Well done Janet!

First Prize for the best TRADITIONAL PROFESSIONAL quilt was awarded to MING HSU for her "IT'S THE SINGER, NOT THE SONG".

Ming Hsu said this is "A wholecloth design inspired by the inlay on an ancient Chinese bronze.  A vintage Australian made 1957 Singer 201P sewing machine was used entirely, to show that, with practice, intricate quilting can be achieved even with basic old machines."
Judy's Note:  I'd say with a great deal of talent too!  Please note the detail shown here.

The MIXED TECHNIQUES - ANYTHING GOES section always shows ingenuity with a variety of quilts. This year, 4th Prize was awarded to PAM HILL for her "ON THE WING"
Pam said  "This wholecloth quilt was inspired by my photo of swallows circling and dipping in the pool.  The traditional block 'Circling Swallows' was the starting point of my design.  Coloured with ink pens and Inktense pencils and blocks.  Embellished with Swarovski crystals."

Personally, I think it is brilliant as Pam always presents such exquisite work.
What do you think?  Just look at these closeups.
