Best Of Show - Perth Craft & Quilt Fair 2017

Last week we exhibited at the Craft & Quilt Fair in Perth at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre. The West Australian Quilters' Association held their QuiltWest 2017. In conjunction with Expertise Events and Bernina Sewing Machines, the Bernina Best of Show was awarded to:
TRACEY BARELI for her quilt
"BIRD IS THE WORD"
This quilt also won FIRST PRIZE in the Mainly Applique Professional
and Best Longarm Machine Custom Quilting
Tracey said "The Pattern is from the Book "Applique Mastery" by Phillippa Naylor. All applique pieces have been free motion sewn, with a little machine Blanket Stitch. Free Motion quilted."

CONGRATULATIONS TRACEY

Runner Up was awarded to
MEGAN BYRNE
for her quilt
"GORGEOUS GIRL"
I apologize for not capturing the poster of details of the quilt
but you will see the detail in this image.
Besides being Runner-Up overall, " Gorgeous Girl" also won the
PICTORIAL QUILTS OPEN

PHILIPPA THOMAS
won the BEST USE OF COLOUR
for her quilt
"FLIGHT OF FANCY"
Philippa said "Inspired by Susan Carlson's
amazing animal quilts and using her glue applique technique,
this fantastical bird will make you smile".

The BERNINA ENCOURAGEMENT AWARD
was won by
ROBYN FREEMAN
for her quilt
"GLACIER STAR"
The quilt also won FIRST PRIZE
TRADITIONAL: AMATEUR
Robyn said "Foundation Pieced by machine and quilted in sections by domestic machine".

Now this entry was in the ABSTRACT section and though never won any prizes, I really was fascinated with it, so am sharing.

"PRIMORDIAL SOUP"
made by HELEN O'HARA

Helen said "3.8 billion years ago life began. Cells divided and connected together in new ways to form our most ancient ancestors. Cut and fused with soldering iron, heat distressed.

Tried to capture the side view so as you could see the three-dimensional form.
If you look again at the first photo, those centre pink circles
are the ones supported by the fabric "rods"  shown in the photo above.

I hope you enjoy viewing some of the winning quilts and we congratulate everyone who had an entry or display.  There were so many and I think everyone thoroughly enjoyed the artistry.
