SLIPPERS WITH SOUL

Towards the end of January, John and I visited some good friends west of Rockhampton, Qld. for a few days before we commenced our Show circuit for 2010, just to catch up!  Whilst the boys hit a few golf balls and drove around their 10,000 acres, we girls just settled in nicely to a few days of sewing.  I was in heaven!

I also did some knitting.  Now, what are they you may say, as I did?  A handbag for little kids?  Nup - Slippers would you believe?  Just look how they fit so snugly.  SLIPPERS WITH SOUL and yes there's a great story to read plus the slipper pattern.

I must admit these are not the ones I knitted.  Confess I'm now knitting a second pair because I couldn't get my foot into the opening of mine!  Hint - knit loosely as the side edges need to stretch!

The area was lucky enough to receive some nice rain too, so we went for a drive as John wanted to see the Moura Open-Cut Mine since he used to drive coal trucks.  Massive place and to think the hills around it are all man-made.  Shame it was such an overcast day for a good picture but everyone was grateful for the rain.

Some had asked to see a photo of "Charlie" our new pup, whom John calls his "lap dog". She is now 8 months old and an absolute delight. Luckily she gets on so well with the two sheep dogs though does tend to "annoy" them with her playful antics.

Allow me to "show off" a prize possession I purchased via a silent auction organized by Creative Living Media (Down Under Quilts etc.).  Bid-4A-Cause auctioned A4 Textile Artworks by some of Australia's leading artists; proceeds going to Breast Cancer.  I am now the proud owner of a magnificent work of art by certainly one of my favourite Aussie Artists - Helen Godden from Canberra.  "Goddess Roseus" has a very special message relayed through the talent of Helen and her flair for art and sewing combined.

For those attending the CraftExpo at Newcastle next week, I'll see you there.  Full details of my daily Seminar, daily Make-It-And-Take-It and daily Discovery Desk Demonstration are now on my website.

  1. Thanks for the slipper pattern. I will give it a try. It is now #2786 on my "To Do" List! Congrats on the explosion in the chicken population. They are so cute, and I love Rhoda's name! Your blog is great.

  2. Dear Judy
Always enjoy reading about your experiences both sewing and otherwise. Hope the chickens survive (they are so cute!). Many people with letters after their names have no common sense at all - I take heart from that when I rue the fact that I didn't survive more than one year at Uni. You may not have the letters but you are without doubt the best teacher/sharer of information that I have ever known.
    Love from Deborah
