Machine Embroidery Retreat Group 2

I promised to show you some of the student's projects from both Group 1 and Group 2 and with 32 students, forgive me, but I've randomly selected a few for space reasons.  Many have sent me some comments re their experience with us so I've added those (with more to be added) to the website which you may read here.  It may encourage some who are a little timid about coming in 2011.

In order of appearance, embroidery by Gael, Robyn McK, Beryl, Val, Robyn B & Paula.

All the girls were so pleased with what they'd learned and have returned home to finish some projects and with inspiration for new embroidery experiences.
Makes us feel very proud of them and certainly gives us a sense of satisfaction.  Well done Girls!

Now for some more of their works in progress at the Retreat.

Sewing on Mesh was one of the biggest excitements as was sewing on Mylar Embroidery Sheets!

Mylar Embroidery Sheets give the effect of having sewn with metallic threads yet you sew with any thread at all.  The centres of these flowers have used it - just a shame the photography doesn't give the full translucent "mother-of-pearl" effect it has in reality.  Truly FUN stuff!

Returning students were thrilled with Robyn's new way of sewing Trapunto all in the hoop.  No hints given here!  Athel's magnificent Trapunto project being sewn.

Candlewick Sewing, Battenburg Lace, Cutwork, Felting with Alpaca Wool and Fringing were all popular, just stretching the students' abilities to more than they'd dare to try at home alone.

Caroline's felting with alpaca in progress and an image so as you may see the actual sewing on cards as I showed in a previous blog that some asked to see an image "in progress". 

 

Thistles were sewn with a very wide zig-zag for the fringing effect, so as when cut they were free-standing threads in three dimensional effect.  Often used for hair, gollies and animals too.  Fascinating.
