AQC 2011 Winners

Yet another fantastic Australasian Quilt Convention (AQC) has been held and how great was it?  Amazing!  The whole show last week had an air of excitement, anticipation and laughter that no other show boasts.  You really MUST put next year's date on your list of "I'll be there"!  12th - 15th April 2012.  Record that date now.  It is held in one of Australia's most historic buildings - The Royal Exhibition Building is very dear to everyone's heart as it has been here that all major events have been held for decades and, indeed, since I am a Melbournian, it was here that I visited so many times for shows with my mother as a child.

At the Gala Dinner on Saturday night, several awards were announced including The Australian National Quilt Award and is presented to the maker of the quilt that is judged the best from the Best of Show quilts from the Annual State Guild Shows around the country.  Proudly sponsored by Bernina Sewing Machines Australia, I would like to show you ALL State Winners as they were magnificent.  Firstly, let's give our congratulations to the overall winner!

The Winner from all States Best of Show for 2010 was awarded to Kay Haerland from NSW
for her unbelievable quilt called "Under the Canopy".
When viewing this quilt you really feel as if you are part of this forest.  I hope many have the opportunity of viewing all these quilts as they travel from State to State as part of the Craft & Quilt Fairs during 2011.

Following are the other State Winners.

W.A. Joselyn Leath  - "A Moment in Time"

N.T. Marney Leerson - "Tumbling One Block Wonder"

S.A. Julie Adamson - "Tribute"

TAS. Shirley Gillam - "Galaxy"

VIC. Linda Steele - "Eastern Elements"

A.C.T. Beth and Trevor Reid - "Hot Lava"

QLD. Robyn Ginn - "Silk Purses Crazy Bags"

Congratulations to all these wonderfully talented quilters.  You are indeed a credit to yourselves, your States and to the Australian Quilting Fraternity which is held in very high esteem worldwide.

Other winners of Awards will follow tomorrow plus some snaps
of the Gala Dinner when we all "let our hair down"!
I hope you enjoyed viewing the State Winners.
