Machine Embroidery Retreat Day Two

We were so fortunate with our Spring weather - another beautiful day on Sunday for Day Two of our Machine Embroidery Retreat.
On Saturday night we enjoyed a barbeque at our house with socializing, eating and drinking, sharing the day's activities, including the hubbies.

Some of the projects made during the day included making gorgeous stuffed Felted Owls, made in-the-hoop, cut out, sewn then stuffed.

Aren't they so cute?
Little ornaments or toys, but could be filled with lavender and have a ribbon hanger.

Sewing on mesh with washaway stabilizer needs some added precautions.  Students made a simple bag to learn the technique. Some made a Prairie Point trim using our Pleatmakers.  All used our Fasturn Turning Tools to turn the fabric tube handle right side out.

Using Texture Magic students made this unusually textured purse plus the gorgeous 3-dimensional flower trim.

A design was sewn on fabric backed with Texture Magic, then a steam iron held over the fabric, hovering above it, never allowing the iron to touch the fabric.

Fabric shrinks up to 30% resulting in a beautiful textured fabric which is permanent, even after laundering.

Lunch was enjoyed out in the sunshine each day.

Unfortunately, one of our guest's vehicle decided to "die", so after NRMA couldn't fix, a tow truck came out to take away for a day.  Luckily, turned out nothing too major.  Never a dull moment.

 Day Three to come!

  4. Great tutorial ! It is nice to see all the work that goes into just one step of completing one of your cute blankets.

  5. I have had an embroidery machine for years, but they have really had too small a throat area to accurately quilt a quilt.
For fine bobbin thread I HEARTILY recommend Bottom Line by Superior. This was recommended many years ago when I first started using an embroidery machine, and now the selection of colors etc is fantastic. I it is the only bobbin thread I use.
