QUILT SHOWCASE is held in association with the Craft & Quilt Fair each year, bringing together the work of members in a display of colour and talent. I was truly blown away with some of the quilts. I have great pleasure in sharing with you some photos I took with the kind permission of the Guild.
LINDA WHITE won BEST OF SHOW AWARD
(sponsored by BERNINA)
(sponsored by BERNINA)
with her quilt ELENOR JEAN
named after her maternal grandmother - Elenor Jean Scouller
It also won FIRST PLACE
in the Traditional Professional Quilt Section
in the Traditional Professional Quilt Section
Her quilt measures 195cm x 175cm and is Linda's own original design comprised of approx. 22,500 1/4" hexagons. (mad in my reckoning, but the result is beyond belief). All hand-pieced and hand-quilted.
One day during the show, a customer asked me for some 1/4" hexagon shapes, but the smallest I sold were 1/2" ones, wonder if it was you Linda who visited my stand?
I am indeed in awe of this quilt.
Take a peep at the closeup. Imagine the planning!

Robyn named her quilt "because of all the peach and apricot coloured batiks which are made by Hoffman Fabrics. Her quilt is 175cm square and Robyn said the only machine stitching on the quilt is the quilting attaching the binding and joining the white background. It is all hand appliqued and machine quilted on a stationary machine. (It would match my bedroom beautifully Robyn)
The OPEN LONGARM QUILTERS FIRST PLACE was awarded to
KAREN TERRENS
for her quilt SANDERSON'S APPRENTICE
Karen's quilt measures 208cm square and is machine and hand-pieced and machine quilted in a track mounted system with stitch regulator. Karen said she "was inspired by a visit to the Brisbane Exhibition Quilts from the V & A Museum. I was particularly struck by the Sanderson Star on display and decided to make my own version."

The new Sydney Exhibition Centre at Glebe Island isn't on a real island, but we can still have some 'seafaring' fun with a great Treasure Chest of goodies for one lucky visitor to win.
(remember, Darling Harbour is under reconstruction, hence the move to Glebe Island, Rozelle)
